About
Based in Toronto, the SHIFT* Collective is a student-run publishing group that aims to disentangle the practices of art, architecture, and design from the biases, exclusivity, and elitism that have historically shaped their canon.

Our Working Manifesto
Young people are consistently responsible for the development of new frontiers in the artistic world. They inhabit a sphere in which innovation and forward movement define both the mundane and the extraordinary. The prioritization of their work is crucial to the health of art, architecture and design in a world that processes great change faster than it ever has before.
Humans are inherently artistic–yet, ancient barriers remain in place that prevent equitable access to artistic education and practice. SHIFT condemns this. The creation of easily and equally accessible platforms which facilitate learning and creation within the realms of art and design must take precedence within institutions everywhere. The singular perspective of history holds no power against the masses–the walls must be torn down.
The making of fulfilling work requires a space in which creators can feel safe and free. Seen or unseen, perceived or not, the focus must lie on comfort. To facilitate these spaces and allow artists to pour their whole mind, body and soul into their work is to capture the greatest reaches of human creation.
SHIFT, as an organization, is equally as prone to flaws as the people who make up its masthead. SHIFT welcomes the thoughts and criticisms of any and all who may be willing and able to offer them, and pledges to give all voices equal consideration and sway in shaping its policy.
